In 1982, Baupost was formed by its four founding families to thoughtfully invest, protect, and compound their wealth over multiple generations. Today, while the firm has grown and evolved, these objectives remain at the core of our approach as we serve the interests of our clients — families, foundations, endowments, and other like-minded institutions.
With a broad and flexible mandate, we invest across a wide range of asset classes, including publicly traded debt and equity securities, private credit, private equity, and real estate investments. CEO and Portfolio Manager Seth Klarman has overseen the firm’s investments since inception and now works alongside the firm’s President Jim Mooney and an extensive team of skilled and experienced investment partners and analysts to thoughtfully steward our clients’ capital.
